“Form and function are a unity, two sides of one coin. In order to enhance function, appropriate form must exist or be created.” – Dr Ida P Rolf
The Guild is dedicated to preserving and deepening the Structural Integration teachings and methodology of Dr Ida P Rolf. Her work and life began with biochemistry and yoga, took in the practices of Alexander, journeyed alongside the creators of osteopathy, chiropractic, cranial osteopathy, cranial sacral and finally became the study and sculpting of whole bodies in the “magical” field of gravity. Her system, “the recipe”, found a home and willing students within the human potential movement of the Esalon Institute, Big Sur, California. Over the last 50 plus years her work has been changing the lives of those who received it and consequently began practising her art of healing and growth.
“Some individuals may perceive their losing fight with gravity as a sharp pain in their back, others as the unflattering contour of their body, others as constant fatigue, yet others as an unrelentingly threatening environment. Those over forty may call it old age. And yet all these signals may be pointing to a single problem so prominent in their own structure, as well as others, that it has been ignored: they are off balance, they are at war with gravity”Dr Ida P Rolf
The Guild is specifically dedicated to teaching this discipline in the manner and method refined by Dr Rolf over her many decades in education. The Teaching is delivered in the manner of a group apprenticeship with a master practitioner. The environment is collegiate and the masters are of exemplary personal standards and practice. The method of education is socratic in nature, and engages in providing a consistent framework for enquiry into the human condition reflected in the structure and body. The Recipe is equal parts, muse, philosophy, and map of application with space left for a touch of artistry and sculpture. It holds a space and allows for the ordering of the segments of a body, in a sequential fashion, first differentiating and finding space where needed, then beginning to integrate that new order into enhanced feeling and function.
“Practitioners of SI do not feel ourselves to be therapists. The gravitational field is the therapist. What we do is prepare the body to receive the support from the gravitational field which gives a greater sense of well being.”

Upcoming Structural Integration events
Basic training starts Feb 2020 in Bath. The basic training holds fast to the teaching methods of Dr Rolf whilst formatting the learning according to the EU Guild innovation of 20 extended weekends over 20 months. This format has proved hugely popular with our European tribe, allowing the unique delivery of Dr Rolfs wisdom with a schema that flexes to ease the practical considerations of time, work and family challenged by retraining or vocational change
Introduction to the basic training November 2019 With EU Guild President Ales Urbanizek. This two day workshop is part of our lead in to the basic training which begins in Feb2020. For individuals considering upgrading or broadening their current bodywork/therapeutic philosophy and skill set or for those contemplating a vocational change to a rewarding discipline with an ever growing population of people in need of their skills.
March 2020 – This extended workshop is for structural integration practitioners and the learning space is held by Nilce Silveira (Rolfing Godmother) and Japanese structural acupuncture and Koshi balancing master Jeffrey Dann. The last 3 day was focused on the seventh hour and this extended format will take in the philosophy and techniques of session four five and six. The aim is to deepen the practitioners connection to the sessions, whilst introducing a neuro-vascular, pin free acupuncture tool kit into your practice. Anyone who attended the cranial/seventh hr last summer will testify to the quantum shift this addition can bring into your practice
March 2020 – This three day workshop is the Japanese structural acupuncture/Koshi balancing extension of its SI sister. Intended for Quallified acupuncturists but open and accessible to allied disciplines. Its aim is to dive deeper into the philosophies and applications of this ancient and almost lost discipline that allies so closely with SI. The sessions will be held by the wonderful Jeffrey Dann (http://koshibalancing.com)
July 2020 – This workshop offers UK and European Practitioners to experience one of the grand names of this movement. Judith Aston (https://www.astonkinetics.com/judith-aston) has been a long time ally of SI bring her own revelations of the impact of structure into function flow and movement.
Early in her career, from 1963 to 1972, Aston taught movement, physical education, and dance for performing artists and athletes at Long Beach Community College. In 1968, at the request of Dr. Ida Rolf, she developed the movement education program for Rolfing SI and taught this program until 1977.
She created and developed Aston Kinetics as an educational system of movement and bodywork that aims to treat a person’s physical body as something that is unique to them. Rather than to enforce physical symmetry, Aston Kinetics seeks to recognize the asymmetries that are natural to a person’s body. Aston Kinetics is a holistic approach and works to ensure that the entire body is in sync with itself.
October 2020 Nilce and Jeffrey return to deliver the integration workshop taking in and deepening the sessions 4-7 understanding birthed in the previous two workshops.
